  • Health board sweet success diabetes

Congratulations to MidCentral District Board of Health for coming up trumps in terms of diabetes management. The latest figures from the Ministry of Health quarterly regional MidCentral show performance has risen to the tables placed second behind Taranaki, to achieve its objectives in managing the many facets of this sometimes debilitating disease. Between July and September of 1364 diabetic patients were reviewed, the results show that 75 percent of them were successfully controlling their blood sugar levels in the blood. This is the result of a real commitment of board members, hospitals, and industry to improve practices in dealing with the growing number of people in our region who suffer from diabetes. However, the question must be asked: MidCentral can continue to enjoy success in the management of diabetes in the region after council members recently slashing Diabetes Center lifestyle? Only time will tell.

Earlier this month, the board voted to cut $ 100,000 from the school budget at a cost that a full-time nurse and a part-time administrator – two valuable resources in the battle of the region to keep diabetes under control. While it is understandable the card is between a rock and a hard place under the guidelines of the new government – a cruel oxymoron to save money and improve performance – the relatively small but significant slice of funding could certainly be maintained. The center has a critical role in helping patients manage and control their conditions – to ensure they can live an active lifestyle, while saving millions of dollars flow hospitalization costs. The cost of losing a nurse at the center will greatly hinder your ability to perform at the level that has been – a position that undoubtedly contributed to the success MidCentral quarterly in the management of diabetes. Medical experts and accountants, even agreed that if diabetics are left unchecked and poorly managed, then health boards will have to prepare for an attack of future costs for the health system. MidCentral hopefully will come to their senses after their six-month review of the cuts from the center, especially if the region begins to slip back into the bottom of the quarterly evaluation boards. But by then, the decline may already be too deep. Congratulations to Joe Fraser widower for cycling in the Lake Taupo this weekend in honor of his wife. By taking your bike and cycling race in place, has shown what a determined woman and especially Patricia Fraser. Kia Kaha.
